Public Law Children: Care Proceedings and Adoption

No18 Chambers is a Leading Set of Chambers in Care Proceedings on the South Coast of England.

Our specialist public law care barristers are well-known experts in providing advice and advocacy in public law children proceedings for all parties including parents, children, wider family members (grandparents/aunts/uncles) guardians, local authorities, and government bodies such as CAFCASS and the Official Solicitor. Our Members of Chambers are readily available to deal with short-notice applications for emergency relief and injunctions to protect those concerned. The team regularly appear in the Family Courts, High Court and Appellate Courts.

Our care specialists handle cases very sensitively with a focus on securing the best outcomes for children and families. They are experienced in representing vulnerable clients with mental health and / or learning difficulties or disabilities as well as working with intermediaries as well as interpreters. We handle urgent matters such as emergency protection orders, injunctions, and interim applications, and regularly act in complex cases involving non-accidental injuries, FII (Fabricated or Induced Illness), abuse, and chronic neglect. The team also advises on secure accommodation, deprivation of liberty, wardship, and education issues, as well as adoption and international adoption, often involving human rights and mental capacity considerations.

The team encompasses barristers with a particular interest and expertise in complex disputed medical evidence and the cross-examination of single-joint experts.

Chambers makes every effort to ensure consistency of Counsel throughout these most difficult and emotional proceedings. We work closely with our clients and solicitors to obtain the best possible outcome for both child and parent. We are fully committed to representation under legal aid schemes at all levels of seniority.
