Helen joined Chambers as a tenant in October 2023, after successful completion of her pupillage under the supervision of Nigel Cholerton. During her pupillage and since joining Chambers, Helen regularly practices in Employment Law and Family Law, with a particular interest in Children work and Matrimonial Finance.
Alongside her busy practice, Helen is active in the wider legal community and is particularly passionate about access to justice and mentoring aspiring barristers. Helen assists with Middle Temple’s mock interview scheme every year and volunteered with University College London from 2024-2025 mentoring a Masters of Law student.
Prior to commencing pupillage, Helen worked full-time as an Assistant Legal Officer for the Free Representation Unit, running her own caseload, as well as supervising the student volunteers with their matters. Prior to this, Helen worked as a legal caseworker for Advocate, the Bar’s pro bono charity

Helen regularly represents Applicants, Respondents and 16.4 Guardians in Section 8 of the Children Act 1989 applications. Helen has experience in applications for Child Arrangements Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders, Specific Issue Orders and Special Guardianship Orders.
Helen has experience of representing clients in multi-day hearings and matters which involve domestic abuse, vulnerable parties, allegations of parental alienation, relocation (international or within the UK) and cases which have required the involvement of the Local Authority and/or Children’s Guardians.
Helen represents clients from initial hearings through to contested final hearings.
Judges have praised Helen for her efficient drafting of orders and assistance in resolving matters outside of court.
Helen frequently represents both applicants and respondents who are involved in Family Law Act 1996 proceedings. She has extensive experience in applications for non-molestation orders and occupation orders, including where those applications are linked to Children Act 1989 proceedings.
Helen has been praised for her handling of complex and sensitive situations.
During Helen’s pupillage, she had significant exposure to matrimonial and financial work with her supervisor. Helen now regularly appears for applicants and respondents at First Appointments, Financial Dispute Resolution hearings and Final Hearings concerning financial provision, including interim and final applications.
Helen has experience of dealing with matters involving pre-nuptial agreements, multiple properties, internationally held assets and pensions.
Helen is building her experience in cohabitation and TOLATA claims, as well as Inheritance Act matters.
Helen has gained extensive employment law experience when previously working for the Free Representation Unit. This involved advising and representing clients in tribunals on issues such as: unfair dismissal, unlawful deduction of wages, breach of contract, holiday pay, discrimination, and National Minimum Wage issues.
In July 2023, Helen appeared in the Employment Appeal Tribunal pro bono and was successful in having the appeal dismissed: The Sports PR Company Ltd v Ms Valentina Londono Cardona [2023] EAT 110.
Helen has a growing employment law practice and represents Claimants and Respondents at preliminary hearings, judicial mediations and final hearings.
Helen has experience in multi-day hearings, for example representing a Claimant in a 5-day trial dealing with disability discrimination against a State department; representing a Respondent in a 3-day trial involving a unfair dismissal claim with a Human Rights Act 1998 issue. Helen was recently successfully in representing a Claimant to obtain their full schedule of loss at a remedy hearing following a rule 21 judgment.
During pupillage, Helen gained experience observing counsel acting for Local Authorities, Guardians and parents. She has seen multi-day fact finding and final hearings and had exposure to emergency protection orders, interim care orders and represented a client in a discharge of care order application.
Helen is building her experience in cohabitation and TOLATA claims, as well as Inheritance Act matters.
Helen represents clients at possession hearings and injunction applications. Helen has been successful in representing Claimants obtaining urgent injunctions to prevent nuisance or annoyance or obtaining outright possession due to a Defendant’s significant anti-social behaviour.
Outside of Chambers, Helen enjoys yoga and has been practising it for over five years. She also enjoys hiking and travelling.
