Claire joined Chambers following the successful completion of her pupillage in October 2017. Claire enjoys a mixed common law practice. Prior to pupillage, Claire worked for an insurance company in fleet motor claims and as a public liability claims handler before becoming a Solicitor Agent dealing with civil and commercial litigation, including consumer credit, personal injury and housing matters. Her family practice includes private and public child law as well as applications for injunctive relief and ancillary relief matters.

Expertise

Family: Care & Children

Claire has experience of private law children matters, taking instructions at all stages of private children disputes, from first appointments through to final hearings. She also represents both applicants and respondents in dispute resolution hearings and as pupil gained significant experience in domestic violence and injunction matters under Part IV of the Family Law Act 1996 and accepts instruction in both a without notice and on-notice applications.


Domestic violence & injunctions

Claire has represented many clients in cases involving Domestic Abuse, dealing with applications for injunctions under the Family Law Act 1996 (non-molestation orders and occupation orders) both on an ex parte and on-notice basis.


Public Law / Care and Adoption Proceedings

Claire accepts instructions to represent any party throughout care proceedings and has experience working for both the Local Authority, parents and other family members from EPO, Preliminary Hearings, Applications, Directions to Issue Resolution Hearings.


Family: Finance

Claire has experience in representing applicants and respondents at FDA’s and FDR’s and also takes instruction in other ancillary applications relating to divorce and financial relief.


Chancery and Commercial

Commercial Chancery

Claire has experience on a wide range of civil matters, including landlord and tenant disputes, possession claims, road traffic disputes, credit hire claims and personal injury matters, including infant settlement approvals and MOJ Stage 3 hearings.


Contractual disputes

Claire has been involved in a wide range of contractual disputes; and in particular, disputes arising from alleged breaches of statutorily implied terms and matters of contractual construction.  She has represented clients in respect of Civil Restraint Orders.   


Insolvency and liquidation

Prior to pupillage Claire dealt with applications in bankruptcy including applications to set aside statutory demands, applications to annul and applications for sale of property by trustees.


Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence

Claire spent several years working within insurance companies dealing with issues as to liability and quantum. Claire has a surprisingly broad range of experience from LVI injuries to multiple fractures and disability. She has represented both claimants and defendants in MOJ Stage 3 hearings, infant settlement approvals and also deals with fast track claims.

During pupillage Claire has so far been exposed to employment law through capability review meetings.


Property

Landlord and tenant

Claire  has experience in  both  Commercial and Residential property disputes . She  has  acted for individual landlords and those with a portfolio of lettings as well as acting for Tenants in these disputes. She  has expertise in dealing with both landlord and tenant and mortgage possession matters as well as leasehold disputes.

Outside chambers Claire enjoys sailing and rowing and is a volunteer with the Sea Cadet Corps.
